Coronavirus and schedule updates

Friday May 29, 2020

Greetings Grace Chapel,

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

I wanted to encourage you today in the Lord and also give you some updates for our service Sunday.  Last week we had about 60 people in church including those serving in sound/worship/media/video.  We were able to properly social distance by spreading out throughout sanctuary and overflow area.  We still have a little more room to spread and if we get many more we have our downstairs fellowship hall set up to watch live stream.

A couple of changes we will make this week is #1 to have our greeters at north and west double doors be outside to greet at 6 foot social distance.  This will solve the "traffic jam" that occurs in our small entry ways and allow people to walk right in the outside doors that will propped open. You won't have to touch any doors and can go directly in and find your seats on the inside or outside aisles.

#2- after the service we want to encourage you to visit with others outside the building to free up space in our sanctuary.  Masks our recommended but optional inside crowded areas and taking our conversations outside will perhaps allow you to get greater distance and talk without masks so you can hear one another better.  My family and I and the elders and their spouses will head outside right after the service to visit with anyone who would like to visit.

Finally I just want to let you know that we care deeply for each one of you.  Jesus said to "love one another as I have loved you".  In that spirit let us love each other sacrificially deferring to one another and respecting each other.  We have many different views on our current COVID situation and how to handle it.  Staying home or going out?  Masks or no masks? Etc.  Let us respect one another showing love and care for one another as Christ loves us.

Our guidelines at church have respected and followed the governor of Indiana's phased re-opening approach and guidelines.  Here they are once again if you need to revisit this link we sent out before.

As June begins we see the next phase as restaurants, churches and other businesses have opened already.  For those with other health conditions that would make you higher risk for COVID we would highly recommend that you continue to stay at home to live stream our Sunday service as there may be greater risk for you.  Certainly if you are uneasy about coming please know that we will continue to live stream so you can watch at home comfortably.  Thanks so much for our growing sound and video team to make the experience better on line!!!

We pray for each one of you and your families, that our Lord will keep you in his loving arms!  With the flood of information around us and all the happenings let us remember to "fix our eyes on Jesus" who will keep us in His perfect peace and love.  He is working, He is with us, and the Gospel is being spread.  God is good, all the time!

Love in Christ,
Pastor Kevin

Greetings Grace Chapel,

Pray that this note finds you and your family doing well in the grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ!

As we expect more people coming to church this Sunday we have every other row seating open in sanctuary to accommodate for 6 foot social distancing.  If you could sit as individual or together with your family on either the inside aisle seats or the outside aisle seats to leave the "middle" seats in a row as space between two families sharing a row.  We also have plenty of extra seating set up in "overflow" area so please spread out to use all of that space.

We pray God's peace and joy upon you today, for our God is an awesome God!  We will continue to live stream for those at home.  We look forward to seeing you all in the upcoming weeks!

Love in Christ Jesus,
Pastor Kevin

"Therefore, since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe" (Hebrews 12:28)

Greetings Grace Chapel,

Indiana Governor Holcomb has issued an executive road map to safely re-open the state of Indiana and has said that churches can now meet again with safety measures in place including 6 feet social distancing.  Here's the link and their website for more detailed information.

Therefore we are set to have service this Sunday Mother's Day May 10th!  Happy Mother's Day!  Unfortunately Grandmother's will have to wait until May 24th to come back as the governor has recommended that those over 65 years old continue to shelter in place at home for two more weeks.  We will still continue with live stream so you can watch from home!  Based on our survey we expect only about 30 people this week at service so we will have plenty of room to spread out in sanctuary and overflow area.

We have had the sanctuary carpet and chairs professionally cleaned, all the terrazzo floors cleaned and waxed, and Anna has been doing a great job of disinfecting the church!  For the first several weeks back we will not have nursery, Sunday school, or children's church.

Remember we will continue to live stream on YoutTube so please stay home if you are higher risk or are still uneasy about coming.  We miss everyone and look forward to seeing you in person in the upcoming weeks!  Remember God loves you, is with you, and is always working good!

Love in Christ Jesus,
Pastor Kevin

"Let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near." (Hebrews 10:24-25)

Praying for all of you and your families this Resurrection Day weekend! May God draw us ever closer to Him and each other! Even though physically we can't be with each other, our friends and family this year; God is able to unite us together in His Spirit through the love of Jesus Christ our Savior. God's mercies are new every morning!

Some of you have asked about doing Communion on Good Friday this year as we were scheduled to do a Passover Seder meal that evening that was cancelled.  Good news, Jeff and Rhonda Tomich have decided to do a shortened version of this so we can all take Communion together via facebook livestream in our own homes.  The Passover Seder Communion will be next Friday April 10th at 7pm and will last approximately 30 to 45 minutes.  They will be using matzah bread and grape juice but if you don't have that in your home just use bread and some type of juice.

Pray everyone is well, may the Lord's grace shine upon you today!  Tomorrow's Palm Sunday service will be on Facebook live again as well as Easter Sunday next week at 10am.  Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD!  Hosanna in the highest!

In Christ Love,
Pastor Kevin

We had a resource that was made available to us free from GROUP, a Christian ministry.  There are children's, youth, and family devotionals available free from them right now relevant to our current trial.  You can go here or on our home page at to use them at home with your families, kids or yourself!  Choose from their list of resources here, enter your e-mail and enjoy!

Also remember to try the 2020 Vision prayer walk we did at church at home.  You can apply it to your own home and family as well as our church!

2020 Vision prayer- click here

We have seen and heard how many have drawn closer to the LORD JESUS during this time, sharing with spouses and family what God has been speaking to them in quiet times, praying with children, and pressing into the heart of the LORD!  Isaiah 26:20 says "Come, my people, enter into your rooms And close your doors behind you; Hide for a little while Until indignation runs its course."  God is certainly shaking things right now, I pray that each household would be ignited with the Spirit of God today, He is speaking!  May we resolve to choose this day whom we will serve...

"If it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve: whether the gods which your fathers served which were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” (Joshua 24:15)

I Pray God's grace to you and your family today! We continue to pray for our dear ones on the front lines; doctors, nurses, medical workers and so many others in harms way right now. May the Lord keep us and provide for us, passing over us and protecting us under the cover of his loving arms!

Love in Christ Jesus,

Pastor Kevin

Greetings all,

Pray each one is well this morning, remember always the Lord Jesus has you in his loving arms always!  We will once again have our Sunday service streaming live online tomorrow at 10am through our website Facebook page.  I also wanted to let you know we have been posting updates through this time on our website home page if you scroll down to coronavirus update and will continue to use this.  Here's the link.

Additionally we have posted links, videos, and correspondence on our Grace Chapel facebook page.
While we miss much of the in person fellowship of the saints during this time we are thankful for facebook, prayer chain, emails, phone calls, etc to keep in touch with you all.

Some of you have asked me how you can be a help during this time and we appreciate all the love and willingness to serve.  We do have a need that has come up, for the next couple of Thursday's we will need to provide a  dinner meal for the men's shelter.  If you desire to help prepare a meal for 12 men please let me know.  We can pick the meal up from your home on Thursday around 5:45.

Julie and I have been making runs to the grocery store for some in the church so please if anyone needs some groceries or anything at all please let us know and we can get you what you need.  We have been blessed by so many of you with meals and encouragement so thank you!  God is certainly working in this time and will continue to do so!  Julie and girls are doing well, the past couple of days they've gotten to watch a 3 month-old baby boy as Ari has a friend that is a single mom and has to go to work each day at Wal-mart.  Needless to say that baby is adored, and I finally got a baby boy in our home!:)

We love you all, please don't hesitate to contact us with anything at all- groceries, prayer, any needs, or simply just to talk.  Thanks also for prayers for my sister Lisa, she is still scheduled for surgery April 13th to remove cancer.

One more thing I thought would be a blessing.  At the start of 2020 we did a corporate and personal prayer at Grace on Wednesday nights and finished with a prayer walk through the church.  This can also have great application in our own homes, so if you would like go to our website home page and scroll down to the link 2020 vision prayer walk, you can open that word document and do this prayer walk in your own home yourself and with your family!

Jesus told us "Do not let your heart be troubled, trust in God, trust also in Me".  Let us hold onto our Lord and Savior, for He is good!

Greetings all, hopefully you were able to join us for our livestream service this morning! Thanks to Mark Michalec and Sara Michalec for setting this up online and doing worship, also thanks to Steven Reuter for sharing message. We plan on doing livestream for upcoming weeks and will pipe into our sound system next week which should make the sound quality much better.  Also hope to work out better streaming experience to avoid losing stream, thanks for the feedback!

We thank the Lord for each of one of you and just want to encourage you to keep doing the Father's business! We were suppose to be in Florida today visiting my sister but things have changed for all of us these past weeks. We were blessed this past week in numerous ways. A St. Patrick's Day corned beef and cabbage meal from Don and Nancy Ontto delivered to our home! Ari,Emma, and Becca had 8 youth group girls over for a luncheon (that's under the 10 allowed:). Julie and Ari were able to take care of a 20 year old single mom's baby these past weeks as she has had to go to work. Numerous emails or texts with a Scripture or encouraging word, so thank you.

We were also blessed by the movie "Before the Wrath" that was given to us by Wayne and Linda Voigt Lea as our family watched it. It's a movie that explains what Jesus meant in John 14:1-3- “Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. “In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. “If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also." It's a picture of the Jewish Galilean wedding, Jesus is our bridegroom and we are His bride! Yesterday it actually hit #4 on the amazon top selling movie list and is the #1 Christian movie, we have a copy at the church and would be glad to deliver it to someone.

We were also blessed to be able to deliver some groceries and movies to a few people this weekend that are high risk and not able to go out as much, so please if anyone needs a movie, books, food, or just a smiling face (or phone call) to visit with just let us know!

Continue in His Word and draw near to our Lord! I've heard great testimonies from those that have grown in quiet time and Word.  Family bible studies in home, also prayer groups praying via facetime!

Another question has come up with many, how should I send my tithes and offerings in?  You can either mail your check in to the church or give online through our website.   Thanks so much!

Love in Christ, The Gerdt family

P.S.  Want to prayer walk in your home?  Use the 2020 Vision prayer walk we did at our church at beginning of year in your home.

Greetings Grace Chapel family,

Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ!

The last few days and weeks have certainly changed our world in so many ways with so much activity coming to a standstill, financial markets plummeting, and much panic from the world. Always remember Jesus is LORD, and God is certainly shaking the nations today to wake up to the reality of HIM, and for His Church to be filled with the Holy Spirit and the power of His Word. The Church is being shaken to wake up to the fact that the Bridegroom Jesus is coming back soon to get His Bride the Church; so let's be watching, waiting, working, praying, sharing, loving, trimming our lamps and ready for Him! The nations are also being shaken and we have a great opportunity now as His Church to shine the light of Christ, be salt and light in our communities and world, and bring the Good news of Jesus Christ to a world in need of a Savior!

"See to it that you do not refuse Him who is speaking. For if those did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, much less will we escape who turn away from Him who warns from heaven. And His voice shook the earth then, but now He has promised, saying, “YET ONCE MORE I WILL SHAKE NOT ONLY THE EARTH, BUT ALSO THE HEAVEN.”This expression, “Yet once more,” denotes the removing of those things which can be shaken, as of created things, so that those things which cannot be shaken may remain. Therefore, since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe; for our God is a consuming fire." (Hebrews 12:25-29)

His voice was like the sound of a trumpet (Exodus 20:18) that shook them on Mt. Sinai, and perhaps God is once again using a Trump in office to shake things. Perhaps God is shaking His Church to operate in ways that are different than what we are use to and necessary because of the virus and the government guidelines that are being put in place as far as meeting together. Let us be praying together for God's wisdom in these areas in the upcoming days.

This morning the elders and I met after getting a lot of feedback from medical professionals and others. Additionally, government safeguards that have begun to be put in place are discouraging groups of 10 or more to meet together. Therefore, we have cancelled our Wednesday evening group bible study that meets at 6:30 starting tomorrow through at least April 8th. We have also cancelled the April 10th Passover Seder meal at church. The Men's Shelter that meets on Thursday nights here and at other churches during the week has been moved as of this week to the New Creation Center on Calumet Avenue for the near future. We are currently looking to "livestream" the Sunday service starting this Sunday through our website Facebook page. We will be testing that in the upcoming days, but plan on that for the next several Sundays (through April 5) and we will re-evaluate after April 5th. Mark and Sara Michalec will plan on doing some worship songs this week and Steve Reuter is scheduled to share a short message on March 22nd at 10am. You should be able to view it through our website facebook page link, even if you don't have a facebook account (we will test that this week).

I've also put a link for any new email updates and announcements we may have that you can view on our website home page if you scroll down and click the link. If you can't make the livestream we still have all our sermon messages on our website.

Please feel free to email me or the elders with any thoughts or concerns. Also let us know how you are doing and how we may be praying for you. Continue to email Trixie Gavelek at with any prayer chain requests.

May the Lord bless you and keep you,

May the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you,

May the Lord look upon you with favor, and give you peace!

Love in Christ Jesus our Lord,

Pastor Kevin Gerdt
